Artist statement

Wool and willow are the basis of our creative work at Westfield Croft. We produce breed specific yarns from our own sheep; we work with other flock to produce more yarn types and Marguerite makes handwoven rugs. We have rejuvenated a willow coppice on the croft and Frank is a basketmaker producing functional and beautiful baskets and plant supports.

Extended Bio

I am Marguerite, a first-generation shepherd, smallholder, and craft business owner from Westfield Croft in rural Aberdeenshire.  Wool forms the cornerstone of my work which is sourced from our own flock of Scottish rare breed sheep and from local farms from NE Scotland. Seeing the sheep being hand-shorn for the first time inspired me to use the beautiful material of raw fleece to produce yarns and rugs that are true to the sheep and landscape.  My husband is Frank, a basketmaker and woodworker, who uses the raw materials of willow and hazel that are grown and harvested on Westfield Croft.
