Artist statement
My artwork is inspired by shapes, pattern, colour, texture, light and shade that make up the landscape. Using a range of fine-art techniques I build imagery, in layers, on paper and fabric to convey the composition and atmosphere of a place. Display includes framed artwork, textiles & cards as well as work from place based projects with The Cabrach Trust.
Extended Bio
I was trained in screen-printed textiles at Glasgow School of Art and since then I have worked as a teacher, self employed artist, designer and maker in a range of surface textile and mixed-media techniques. I exhibit regularly, both solo and group exhibitions and have, previously, taken part in NEOS.
The focus of my work has remained constant throughout the years. I’m inspired by the shapes, pattern, colours, texture, light and shade that make up the landscape. Working with paper and fabric and using a range of fine art techniques I build imagery, in layers, to convey the composition and atmosphere of a place. My latest work in paper collage has become more abstract, concentrating on patterns and textures found in land, sea and shore. The addition of paper cut overlays emphasise these aspects as well as playing with light and shadow. For NEOS I will be showing a range of framed artwork and textiles and there will be an exhibition of work from place based projects with The Cabrach Trust. The Acorn Centre will be hosting another artist located within the area - Sheila Wiseman Fairy Sculpture
