Artist statement

With a background in design, I have always been intrigued by the shape, pattern and colour in nature. These three elements are incorporated in still life, landscape and more recently, semi abstract artworks painted mainly in acrylic paint. I am sharing a venue with Helen Forrest in her home and studio located in the rolling landscape of The Mearns.

Extended Bio

Karen was born in Glasgow and as a student attended the Glasgow School of Art where she qualified with a BA Honours in Graphic Design. Karen worked for a few years as a designer then in 1993 moved to Aberdeen with her husband and young family where she raised her children. After some time she rekindled her interest in drawing and painting and in recent years has exhibited in some of the galleries around Aberdeen. Her experience in design shows in the pattern, shapes and colour in her paintings based on the forms and textures of nature. Many of Karen's paintings initially were quite representational and more recently they include semi abstract artworks as she develops her style.
