Artist statement
Light and colour in the landscape is what my current paintings are about. The way that light filters through trees or creates dappled shadows on paths. I am working predominantly in pastel at the moment, aiming to capture a sense of place with an economy of mark making. I also use other painting mediums such as oil, watercolour and gouache.
Extended Bio
I graduated from Gray’s school of art in 1995 with a degree in drawing and painting. Since then I have continued to work in both figure and landscape but I have been predominantly working from the landscape favouring pastel since I became addicted to this media following a workshop I took on my birthday last year. I like to work loosely and economically with marks and pastel is a great media for this. I often combine Pastel with other wet media underpainting too. I’m hoping if the weather is good that I may do a bit of plein air painting while at my NEOS venue.
