Artist statement

Embroidery, textile art and engraved glass.

I love colour and detail. Whatever I am working on - fabric, painted furniture or wildlife embroideries - there will be attention to the small things. My chairs all contain surprises, and my current work is becoming increasingly experimental. I am focusing now on mixed media and three dimensional embroidery.

Extended Bio

I have loved embroidery since I was taught to sew by enthusiastic nuns at the age of five. They spotted a keen volunteer and I served my apprenticeship on more tray-cloths and table linen than now seems reasonable. I started glass engraving when I was at home with small children and joined the Guild of glass engravers. later I studied upholstery and after qualifying, I started painting chair frames and embellishing top fabric with embroidered fish and birds and mythical beasts. Every chair I did held a surprise in the back, under a secret flap. I am currently experimenting with mixed media and incorporating three dimensional pieces into my work. These are felted or stumpwork embroidery but I have also been incorporating cast silver into some textile pieces. I prefer to work to commission, but most of the work I do now is just for fun. I am looking forward to sharing it with you.
