Artist statement
Nature, history and Celtic art inspire my leather journals, bags and purses, wristbands and homeware. During NEOS week the studio will be busy as usual, with much for you to see and do. Browse ongoing leather projects and processes and have a go at some leatherwork yourself, using materials and tools typical of this ancient craft.
Extended Bio
I have been a leathersmith for over twenty years, learning my craft from a master saddler in Alberta, Canada. Initially I made journals and leather patches for bikers but since these early days, my skills have increased. Now I produce a wide range of items from buttons to director's chairs; belts to books; purses to bowls. Leather is such a versatile medium and, with the firm belief in the 'nose to tail' principle, is a pleasure to work with. From initial drawings to final stitching and polishing, I enjoy every step of the process. I love working on commissions which are a great way to blend someone's vision with my skill to produce something that will special and one of a kind. Now it's time to pass on my skills, so workshops make up a really enjoyable part of what I do.
