Artist statement
For me, pottery should be a pleasure to use and a joy to own. We need beautiful domestic objects around us which enrich life’s daily rituals. I produce one off pieces from stoneware clay fired in an electric kiln. I explore a range of styles, challenging myself and the clay, so the results vary from smooth clean line forms to more earthy, rocky textures.
Extended Bio
From geologist to potter, I have had a lifelong fascination with rocks, intrigued by their variations and how they were formed. Clay is the result of the natural processes of weathering and erosion of ancient rocks, recycling in its purest form. Shaping this soft versatile material into new forms, continuing its evolution, is fascinating. I am largely self taught, though endlessly inspired by the work of other potters, ceramicists and sculptors. My first love is wheel throwing, but I am more and more drawn to altering forms and augmenting with hand built elements. The versatility of clay lends itself to experimentation and this is the joy of being a potter.
