Artist statement
I work to preserve traditional textile skills, crochet, knitting and felting and combine them with painting, drawing and sculpture. I use materials that suggest themselves within the process. Process being my approach to creating.
Colour is immensely important to me as a method of communication, drawing the viewer in.
I have exhibited in numerous small scale and unusual spaces, including derelict buildings and empty retail units. Showing work that challenges the perception of Art and craft for the viewer.
I hold a degree in jewellery and silversmithing from the Jewellery School in Birmingham, giving me a grounding in 3D design in a range of materials.
Commissions undertaken.
Workshops soon to be launched.
Extended Bio
I am a mixed media Artist with an interest in preserving heritage crafts and skills, such as knitting, felting and crochet. I have a deep interest in Nature and the human form and often depict them in my work.
I create work that can be viewed in a gallery setting and also work that can be worn. Sometimes those objects are one and the same. I seek to blur the line between Craft and Art.
I become deeply invested in creating a worn piece for a particular person, I love it when I create the perfect practical, yet beautiful piece which carries meaning for the wearer/client.
I use painting, drawing, and sculpture, combining these to create work that does not fit within the simple boundaries offered by a single discipline.
I teach these skills to help preserve them and also to unleash the creative potential of learners. Potential clients can contact me via my Instagram profile, Facebook page, phone number or email.
