Artist statement
Join me in my loft studio where I use vintage knitting machines to make 100% pure wool knits - from wearables to wall art. Every item I make is unique or small batch and meticulously hand-finished. I favour my computer-hacked machine but I aim to have a demo punchcard machine set up this year for visitors to try!
Extended Bio
I knit hats, wristwarmers and cowls in small batches on a vintage knitting machine that I bought when it was new! My signature style for jumpers and cardigan designs is big loose and oversized, for relaxed wearing. Everything is hand-finished, hand-washed and dried before it goes to the customer.
I create my knits in my studio, in a wooded garden in rural Aberdeenshire. My items are made using pure wool sourced from a nearby mill. I favour wool because it's perfect for the Scottish winter or summer, knits beautifully and has a minimal environmental footprint.
Technology has developed to enable a 1980s knitting machine to read instructions from a computer, bypassing traditional punchcards and the restrictions of a 24-stitch pattern repeat. I have hacked one of my machines to enable me to knit full-needle bed designs. I'm now delighted to be able to create graphic knits that can fill a sweater front.
