A quick checklist of what you are agreeing to as a North East Open Studios member.
Membership shall be open to all artists and makers who are permanent residents in the North East of Scotland. Out of area applications may be considered at our discretion but priority will always be given to those who live and work in North East Scotland.
Payment does not constitute acceptance. There is no curatorial selection process based on artistic judgement but we DO have an administrative criteria.
Applications must be filled out in full. Payment will not be taken until acceptance has been acknowledged by NEOS via email. Incomplete applications will be rejected with ONE opportunity for the applicant to resolve missing information, before the 31st of March.
BACS Payments made without using the correct payment reference provided for the current calendar year will be rejected and refunded.
Silence after the 31st of March indicates non-acceptance.
All work must be designed and created/made by the artist or maker from concept to final work. No commercially manufactured products.
Each membership represents one person producing and exhibiting their own work. Shared venues and collaborative working are welcome, but each participant must be a registered member. Members may not display or sell work by non-registered individuals. This is a condition of membership.
North East Open Studios is an Open Studios Event welcoming visitors to experience our working creative world. If members are unable to take part in their own space, they are expected to work with their chosen venue to create an open studios experience, for visitors. All members are expected to engage with visitors and demonstrate their practice.
You commit to being present at your studio, or chosen space, over the duration of the open studio event on the days that you are open. Visitors will want to speak with you about your work. It creates a poor experience and reflects badly on NEOS as an organisation if nobody is present.
It is your responsibility to promote your participation in the event. North East Open Studios is only responsible for marketing the organisation and the event overall.
Insurance is a legal requirement. North East Open Studios has no liability for individuals and their studios or venues.
ALL individual artists within a venue must be registered to take part and pay their individual membership fee. Groups are not excluded, however, if your work is on display during NEOS and you are promoting yourself using our branding, you must be a fully paid individual member.
Anyone found taking part in NEOS without paying, using the NEOS brand without express permission, or misrepresenting NEOS without being a fully paid member will be removed from the directory with immediate effect and risk being unable to take part in NEOS in the future. No refunds.
Registration opens on the 1st of March and closes on the 31st of March. There is no grace period after this.
Proofreading of the NEOS Book entry is the sole responsibility of the artist. We take no responsibility for typos in your application that are used in promotional materials.
North East Open Studios has the right to reject unsuitable content.
NEOS reserves the right to use images submitted for promotional purposes.
NEOS reserves the right to reject any application, for any reason, at their discretion, based on internal administrative criteria.
NEOS reserves the right to cap applications depending on administrative capacity. Those who have filled out their applications in full may be move to a waiting list at the discretion of NEOS.
We do not accept applications from galleries, commercial businesses or shops with rented craft spaces to multiple artists and crafters that are not fully paid members of NEOS as individuals.
