Artist statement

I am a member of the Art Society. I have a studio converted from my former garage and this is where I am having my exhibition. I am inspired by our beautiful landscapes and the north east beaches. Other inspiration comes from my garden, be it flowers or other still life. I work with acrylics on canvas creating colourful paintings

Extended Bio

Drawing. from his early passion for vivid colour, flamboyant style and a creative career, Neil Wilkie-Thorburn channels this lifelong love into his art these days.

Tutored and encouraged by contemporary Scottish landscape artist, Mike Samson, Neil now has his own dedicated studio … his ‘happy place’, where he works in acrylics and oils in his interpretation of seascapes, landscapes and still lifes that transcend traditional depictions and infuses them with a distinctive vibrancy.

Neil’s early captivation with the world of colour has become integral to his artistic identity and this early fascination not only shapes his open-minded palette but also mirrors his bold approach to both art and life.

Confident, expressive use of colour, shape, texture and dynamic composition transforms traditional scenes into energetic paintings that breathe life into natural views. This unique interplay invites the viewer to see the world through Neil’s distinctive lens.
