Angus Grant is a painter, craftsman, and teacher, living in the Cairngorms National Park. He is the resident artist at the Spey Bank Studio in Grantown-on-Spey, which he co-owns.
Angus’s work features the lochs, mountains and wildlife of the local area. His paintings are occupied with the dynamic interplay of light across these landscapes, reflecting the ever-changing environment of the Cairngorms.
Angus enjoys exploring the landscape by kayak and is a keen fisherman, using his time on the water to find new views of his favourite lochs. This passion is evident in his paintings, which sometimes seek to reveal the world below the surface as well as above.
Angus studied art at Central St Martins School of Art, before taking a degree in jewellery design at Middlesex University. Here, he specialised in Japanese-style carving and acrylic. He taught Western Jewellery Design at the National Institute of Jewellery Design in Gujarat. After graduation, he worked as a production jeweller for jewellery designer Kirt Holmes in London.
He returned to the Highlands in the early 2000s to start his own jewellery business, selling directly to retailers and to customers at craft markets across Scotland.
Angus is also an art and design teacher at Grantown Grammar School and runs adult classes at his gallery. He has also undertaken many community and public art projects, independently
and collaboratively with young people. One recent project as an art consultant on the
Badenoch and Strathspey Community Hospital in Aviemore.
