Hello %%name%%,
We just wanted to remind you of the fantastic opportunity to find out more about this years NEOS'09 event and to hear from the Cultural Enterprise Office & Creative Cultures who are bringing speakers up from the Spring Fling to give insight into how their open studios event is run...
Refreshing the Visitor and Participant Open Studio Experience
Creative Cultures and the Cultural Enterprise Office are working together on a short series of networking nights inviting speakers to introduce their creative practice and inspire discussion with the gathered creative community.
Freshen Up: Refreshing the Visitor and Participant Open Studio Experience
From Orkney to the Borders and Western Isles to the North East, open studio events are favoured by many artists and craftspeople as a direct route to market and by visitors as a great, immediate way to enjoy and engage with the arts and crafts. Established for different reasons and rich because of this, Scottish open studio events have firmly established their position on the arts calendar. But how do you keep the event and the studio experience fresh for both the visitor and you the participant? Members of Spring Fling Open Studios and North East Open Studios will discuss examples of how their organisations and individual members have approached this whilst not straying too far from the original concept.
Spring Fling Open Studios
Established in 2004 Spring Fling is an annual three day arts and crafts open studio event taking place across Dumfries & Galloway. Regular Spring Fling participants Amanda Simmons (glass) and Adam Booth (architectural blacksmith) will highlight how they, fellow participants and the Spring Fling Open Studios Community Interest Company (incorporated 2008) have employed fresh approaches to maintain visitors' and participants' interest in the event year on year.
North East Open Studios
NEOS' incoming chair Emma Patullo (ceramicist) and a fellow open studio participant will be discussing "best practice" when meeting the public during Scotland's biggest open studio event. NEOS will discuss how they have introduced new initiatives such as opening the event up to students in 2009 alongside artists, makers and galleries.
What to Expect
A 20 minute presentation from speakers followed by questions and answers, plus ample time to network with all attending.
What You’ll Get Out of It
Not just for open studio participants, this event will provide food for thought for anyone wanting to hear about interfacing with an audience.
